How To Get Affordable Web Hosting

By Brian Armstrong

Affordable web hosting is not only defined by the monetary cost, but also by the opportunity cost and the time you'll spend getting a web hosting company that doesn't do what you need. You'll see at the end of this article who I use and here are a few of the things I evaluate when considering a web hosting company to go with.

Web hosting companies usually give you more than enough space to do what you need to. Unless you are trying to duplicate Youtube, you won't have any problems with the amount of space required. Several web hosting companies now even offer "unlimited" space on the server. Although this is theoretically impossible, web hosting companies are all looking to beat their competition and this is one of the ways that they do this.

Another component that may influence your decision on what web hosting company to go with is the amount of bandwidth that they will allocate for you. If you stream a lot of video or people are downloading large files from your web server, this may be a problem. However, if you consider that most web hosts give you several terabytes of bandwidth, this shouldn't be an issue.

One of the factors that can differentiate one affordable web hosting company from another is their technical support. Often on forums I read comments regarding the technical support of a web hosting company and how terrible it is. I don't often read about how good it is, but do hear about the negative. Don't believe everything and see what other people come to the defense of that company. I rely on good quality technical support and prefer that it be in my native language by native speakers. That's just me, but with as many companies as there are out there to choose from, this is one of the luxuries that make my selection process worth it.

Having a good control panel that is easy to navigate through and provides easy management options is vital. It's one thing if you know your way around at the command line of a terminal connecting you to your server, but even then the likelihood of messing something up increases. A good control panel has all of the common options easily accessible and the less common options available as well.

Affordable web hosting companies should also provide you with a free domain name which will most likely use as the main account name. If you're like me and plan on hosting multiple domain names and projects on the same server, you should still take advantage of a free domain name because hey, free domain name.

Affordable web hosting companies should offer through the cpanel several software options for installing software on the websites you plan on hosting. For instance, some of these software options include a blog, content management system, ecommerce shopping cart, web-based email access, forum or bulletin board system, and a few other options for what type of website you'd like to have. Keep in mind that you aren't limited with what you can install. For instance, your website may have not only a blog, but also the ability of that blog to redirect visitors to the main online store (ecommerce). You could also implement or integrate a forum into the same websites.

If you're doing anything online to either generate income or even manage content that you want responsibility for, hosting your own website is a must. You can usually work with a few different web hosts to find the one that you like the most. There will typically be a 30 to 60 day money back guarantee which will enable you to try a couple of them. - 21151
